Managing Career Trajectory in Higher Education

This presentation will focus on providing some general guidance around candidate best practices in developing a career in higher education administration. The goal will be to fully inform attendees about the nuances in what is often a very ambiguous process. Paul will provide useful insights and suggestions for how to e ectively prepare for professional opportunities to advance your career. Paul will provide some context on the client’s perspective and how the process works behind the scenes. He will also share insights on how increase your chances for success by strategically positioning your job experience, building an appropriate narrative, properly preparing for an interview, and conveying the relevant leadership capabilities. Driven from his experience in working with hundreds of boards and search committees, the workshop will open with a presentation followed by a Q&A.

Experience the Lunenburg way of life as we tour the village’s historic architecture, attractions and amenities in the morning, followed by lunch and a Career Development Workshop for those who choose this option, or lunch and afternoon on your own. at 3 p.m. sharp. Guests and/or Deans are also invited to ride to Lunenburg with the group; tour the village with us in the morning; and enjoy lunch and afternoon on their own.

8:00 a.m. Buses depart the Conference hotel, Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel, and travel by highway to Lunenburg
9:30 – 11:45 a.m. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Lunenburg
11:45 – Noon Participants in the Career Development Workshop walk up the hill to the Lunenburg Academy, at the top of Gallows Hill
Noon – 3:00 p.m. Managing Career Trajectory in Higher Education
3:00 p.m. sharp       Buses will depart for a two-hour waterfront drive back to Halifax

Presentation attendees may follow up for a one hour one-on-one career consultation with Paul Chou for an additional $100/hour fee if registered before September 1 and space is available. After September 1, the fee is $125/hour. Paul will make himself available between 8 am – 3 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2017.
